Please attend a short presentation FiRE is conducting at Cornell University!
This year marks the third annual Celebration of Asian American Women at Cornell University. The event dedicates a day to honour Asian American women and celebrate the past and present achievements of such strong individuals. The event draws upon all corners of different communities to witness and experience the ways in which Asian American women find strength for empowerment. Often considered as a double minority group, it is especially important for Asian American women to discover their identity in order to create a strong sense of self.
There are two parts to this event. You are invited to come to either or both. The first part will take place in Lewis Auditorium of Goldwin Smith Hall from 5:00-6:00pm. FiRE (Filipinas for Rights and Empowerment), a mass based women’s organization from New York City, will deliver a workshop about the violence faced by women, particularly Filipinas and other Third World women (http://www.firenyc.org/).
The second part of the event will go from 7:00pm-9:30pm at the Johnson Museum of Art. Ruby Veridiano-Ching, a poet, a youth mentor/arts educator, VJ/television host of MYX.TV, will be present to talk about empowerment of Asian American women through the media and fashion (http://rubyisill.com/blog/).
**Part 2 is a free ticketed dinner event catered by Taste of Thai Express. We have limited seating, so get your tickets as soon as possible! Contact Siobhan (sml273) for tickets/details/info/questions.***
