Philippine Typhoon Relief

This is an urgent appeal to please support Philippine peasant and fisher folk communities for their relief and rehabilitation from Typhoon “Frank” that hit recently in June.

At least 600 people have been killed after Typhoon Frank hit the Visayas region of the Philippines. Another 800 people remain missing after a ferry was allowed to leave port for Cebu and was overturned during the typhoon. At least 59,616 houses were destroyed, while 118,851 were damaged by the typhoon according to the Philippine National Disaster Coordinating Council.

BAYAN-USA and & Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) calls for solidarity with thousands of people, mostly farmers and fisher folks, affected by the Typhoon “Frank” that hit the country. Initial damages to crops are estimated to be at least $124M. This is comes at a particularly difficult time as the country had already been facing a food and rice crisis due to the worsening economic crisis.

BAYAN-USA & KMP are launching a fundraising drive to send assistance to affected peasant and fisher folk communities, for their relief and rehabilitation campaign, through our member or partner organizations in the affected regions. Almost 3 million Filipinos were affected by this disaster and any assistance we can give them at this moment is most essential. Nearly 2.2M Filipinos sought shelter in emergency centers. In an initial report, they need food, drinking water and seeds to begin farming again.

Unfortunately, we need to make appeals to Filipinos in the US and allies, since the Philippine government and international support has been inadequate. In fact, Philippine President Arroyo maintained an expensive trip to the US instead of overseeing the disaster recovery which is to be expected for a head of state. In the meantime, we are making this appeal to help the thousands of victims to be able to recover and get back to their lives.

100% of your donations goes towards organizations in the Philippines helping the people recover from this disaster. For cash donations, you may send your contributions to the following bank account:
